SAILORS RACING INTERSTATE RESULTS

  • 2012 Minnow Nationals

The Minnow nationals started the 7th January in Rockingham WA, hosted by The Cruising Yacht Club of WA.

The NT sailors are performing extremely well with Lewis Radonich coming across the line 3rd, John Lynch 4th & Jed Crookshank 6th out of 40 sailors in the Main Fleet on the first day.

  • 2012 A Class Nationals

The Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club hosted one of the most competitive A Class championships ever. The cream of the A Class, Olympic or America's Cup sailors were all there, it would be too long to list them.

Congratulation to Chris Battenburg and Jack Benson, who finished 9th and 14th (1st Junior) in the group of the World Top Sailors.

  • 2011 Australian Maid Asian Tour

Australian Maid is racing in Asia during the Wet. Again this year, several Darwin sailors were on board the Darwin Sailing Club Patron's yacht.

  1. 16-24 November 2011

The Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta is a challenging offshore sailing race organised every year by the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in association with the RORC. It consists of three overnight passage races, some 240 miles in total, plus three days of harbour racing in Penang and Langkawi. With regatta dinners almost every night, a trishaw race and lots of opportunities to socialise, onshore activities are just as demanding as the sailing.
The event attracts a large variety of yachts, from top class IRC1 racers to slow classic cruisers dating back over 100 years, all of whom had to cope with unpredictable weather and changing tactics during the 9 day mix of races past tropical islands.
The Australian Maid team challenged successfully with the usual mixture of Aussie and International sailors of varied skill levels. The team quickly jelled and made a fantastic series of results conclude with the hoisting of the Jugra Cup.

  1. 3-10 December 2011

The 25th Anniversary Phuket King's Cup Regatta is Asia's biggest and most popular regatta. Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has been held every year since during the first week of December.

With Royal Patronage, the Regatta is organised by the Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.

This year the major sponsor was Kata Beach Resort and Spa (see below) where socialising and awards were given after the days racing. Unfortunately for Australian Maid the step up to IRC 1 Racing Division proved well beyond it's capabilities. To compete against boats 29yrs it's junior and 1/2 her weight was always going to be a challenge. The crew nevertheless went about their business winning a few starts but mostly stern chasing throughout the races. Not able to point as high as 1 year old boats with the latest technology saw The Maid struggle, but most would say we competed well above the others at the after parties.
